Fuechtmann Math
Your child will be bringing math homework home to complete each week. Please pay attention to the planner as homework will be highlighted. Please have your child do the best they can and call, email, or write a note on the homework itself if you have any questions or concerns.
We started Chapter 5: Using Addition and Subtraction to estimate and round on Tuesday, November 19th. This chapter seems to be going very well! We are rounding and estimating 10s and 100s this week. Next week, we will move into 1000s and larger. This chapter has 18 lessons so the hope is to test on this chapter before winter break. In other words--LOTS OF TIME TO PRACTICE!
Your child is currently working on addition and subtraction 100 facts. The third grade goal is to pass 3 tests of each (addition and subtraction) with a 95% or better proficiency per test in 5 minutes or less. Please call or email if you would like additional practice sheets sent home for review.

Language Arts
Next week we will continue our first class novel Earthquake Terror by Peg Kehret. We will complete comprehension questions after each chapter that enable use to work on writing complete sentences and thoughts, and correct grammar usage. At the end of the novel, your child will choose 1 of 6 projects to create in order to demonstrate their understanding of the novel. This weekend your child may be bringing their packet home to make corrections for spelling, punctuation or adding more information for complete sentences.
Power 1/2 Hour
Your child is rotating between groups to focus on skills in a small group setting. The groups for the first rotation are: reading comprehension/math facts, research, critical thinking, creative writing, non-fiction text, speech writing, and vocabulary building.
Science with Mrs. Brown:
This week in science students
began a unit on sound. They've discussed that vibrations cause sounds and
experimented with pitch. Other vocab words include sound source (what
makes the sound) and sound receiver (what hears the sound).
